12/28/2023 0 Comments One on one spirit![]() I stumbled across One Spirit on another Native American web site. No end in sight but progress is encouraging. It will take time but One Spirit is diligently chipping away. With well over an hours drive to Rapid City, there are extremely few jobs. The little village of Allen, where our youth center was built is the POOREST COMMUNITY IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! Shame on us for not helping these people. They had no games, no place to play and few if any people to watch them!! For me that was the beginning. The kids were dirty, they had no place to go and shower. Needing help is a gross understatement! Myself and other helped build a “Youth Center”. I called the director and ask her if I could visit. (This reservation is where my grandmother was born). I donated to them and received a lovely letter, thanking me for my donation. I found One Spirit just before COVID hit. Programs: Sponsorship, food, heat, youth programs Community Stories 188 Stories from Volunteers, Donors & Supporters Geographic areas served: Pine Ridge Reservation, South Dakota Target demographics: The 40,000 people on Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.ĭirect beneficiaries per year: 1500 per month in food program - 20 children regularly in the safe house, 150 homes heated through the wood program, 700 children and elders served through the sponsorship program, 500 people benefitted from the Okini program Lakota employed in wood and food delivery programs supported by One Spirit.Īllen Youth Center built this year for the Lakota community.įundraising now for youth centers to be built in every area of the reservation.ħ00 children and elders in sponsorship program. Results: Food delivered monthly to the homes of 3000 people on the reservation, transitioning to food pantries in each district.
